This is my grandfather's ax.
This is my grandfather's ax.
My father replaced the handle.
I replaced the axe-head.
This is my grandfather's ax.

In the novel FARTHEST STAR by Jack Williamson and Frederik Pohl, the teleporter does not destroy the original. People happily walk through the device and go home, while sending their duplicates on suicide missions.

You don't need a telepod for this. The structure of our bodies is continually being replaced - we are in fact being destroyed and renewed constantly. The telepod is merely an extreme version of what life does to us anyway.
