Your question assumes that shameless materialism 1) can be encouraged to greater heights (i.e. Any holiday is an excuse for this behavior; it isn't Santa's fault), 2) is the epitome of corporate evil (it's not), and 3) is not just business as usual for humanity (humanity got where it is today via shameless materialism).
